GERMAN-MASONTOWN
PUBLIC  LIBRARY
OUR ORGANIZATIONS

German-Masontown Public Library is indeed fortunate to have civic-minded individuals who work unselfishly to support the efforts of the Board of Directors and Library Staff.

Interested community members are always welcome to join our support organizations and are encouraged to participate in their activities.
Friends of the Library

The members of this group support the operation of the German-Masontown Public Library. The Friends of the Library have held numerous activities to generate community involvement and  have sponsored fund raisers to provide much-needed materials and equipment for the library.

The Friends of the Library have organized various fund raising activities--including bake sales and book sales--to support  the operation of the library. The group also produced "Cooking With Friends," a highly popular cookbook featuring favorite recipes from local residents.  A  number of successful raffles enabled the group to donate a substantial amount to the Building Fund.  Because of  their fund raising  efforts, the Friends of the Library have been able to donate money for the Children's Story Hour and for the purchase of recent best sellers. Their hard work is greatly appreciated by the library's patrons and Board of Directors.

In addition to fund raising activities, the Friends of the Library organized a Book Discussion group and have hosted several programs featuring local authors who discussed their publications and shared their ideas with library patrons. These programs have enabled community members to enjoy fiction, nonfiction, and poetry with a local flavor. The Friends have also hosted several informal presentations of general interest to the local residents.   Friends members have been responsible for decorating the library for each season and for updating the library's scrapbook.

The Friends of the Library have also enjoyed a wide range of social activities including holiday parties and other gatherings. Membership is open to anyone who is interested in helping to support the library and its programs. Applications and further information are available at the main desk.

Community Service Groups

Special appreciation is expressed to our local community service organizations which have generously and unselfishly supported the German-Masontown Public Library through the years. Masontown BPW has partnered with the library since its opening. A highlight of BPW's efforts was the establishment of a Career Corner offering materials to help patrons research educational interests and develop career plans. Masontown Exchange Club has provided financial support for computer software upgrades as well as for necessary operating expenses. In addition, members of the Exchange Club have volunteered their time and services to improve the library building and grounds.Members of these groups can be extremely proud of their support of the library and the community.
