NOW OPEN:
YOUR NEW
German-Masontown Public Library

June 2011 began an exciting new chapter in the history of German-Masontown Public
Library as the Board of Directors signed an agreement to purchase a new building to house
our library. We are happy and proud to be able to provide expanded and improved library
services to our community in a modern, fully accessible facility.

The new library is conveniently located at
104 South Main Street in Masontown, adjacent
to Parkvale Bank. The board and staff  had a busy summer packing and moving the library
collection materials while readying the new building. We are also fortunate that the Bridge
Baptist Church expressed an interest in purchasing the existing library building. Because
the church wanted to take possession of the building and begin remodeling, we faced and
accomplished the major tasks of packing, moving and preparing the new facility in a short
period of time. We PERMANENTLY CLOSED the former library on July 30 and
REOPENED in our new library facility on September 27. The reopening had been
postponed because of problems with telephone and Internet installation and with delayed
delivery of shelving and furnishings. There are many small details yet to be completed, and
we appreciate your understanding as the library staff gets our operations up to full speed.

The building offers many amenities: A LIBRARY RETURN drop located at the front
entrance will permit patrons to return materials when the library is closed. A CONFERENCE
ROOM will enable us to offer even more services and programs to the community. The
WILMA BRAND CHILDREN'S ROOM provides a cheerful, welcoming environment with a
wide selection of books and videos for young readers. The SHIRLEY RENALDI LOCAL
HISTORY COLLECTION houses a variety of books and resource materials about German
Township, Masontown Borough and the surrounding area.

DEDICATION OF THE NEW LIBRARY was held on Sunday, October 30. Many citizens
joined us for the opening celebration and offered many compliments on our beautiful new
facility.

The Board of Directors and Library Staff look forward to welcoming and serving you in your
new community library.
